Buy nowElectric lawn mowers are typically sold from hardware stores, garden centres, or garden equipment retailers, but you can also order them from hundreds of retailers online. To help you decide where to buy from, we've picked a handful of the most searched-for retailers that sell electric mowers.
Although the risks of electrocution are minimal, they do exist - so avoid cutting wet grass with an electric mower; it could damage you as well as your mower's electrical components, which clearly isn't a risk worth taking.
Additionally, cutting wet grass will usually lead to an uneven finish. Wet conditions can make the grass slippery, increasing the risk of the mower slipping or you losing control. Wet clippings will also clump together, and clog your mower.
You should always use a residual current device (RCD) with your electric mower, and be careful to keep moving the cable out of the way as you mow as it’s very easy to cut through it.
Our reliability survey saw that for both cordless and corded lawn mowers, 10% of models would develop a fault in the first five years of ownership. Petrol mowers, on the other hand, were less reliable - with 16% developing a fault.
Electric models require less maintenance than petrol ones, in general, as there are fewer parts to wear out or replace, and there's no need for oil changes or spark-plug replacements. Regular cleaning and proper storage are essential to prevent wear and damage to the cord and the motor.

In our February survey of lawn mower owners, we found that they were the most commonly owned type of mower. Consumers continue to choose these models because they are convenient, affordable, and easy to use. Though they tend to lack the power petrol and cordless models can offer, they're usually perfectly able to tackle an average UK garden.
Unlike many other reviewers, we buy every lawn mower that we test. In other words, you can be sure our in-depth, expert reviews are honest and impartial.
For every lawn mower we test, we pay attention to the features that are important for your garden. We take a look at how well the mower will cut your grass and whether or not it leaves grass clippings behind.
We also measure lawn mowers on ease of use, which means checking their weight, how easy they are to assemble and disassemble, plus how convenient the controls are.
