You may not have heard of Hyperoptic, the home broadband provider offering unbeatable speeds on its own fibre network. It sounds great on paper, but how does it compare with other UK providers? Our latest customer survey reveals how Hyperoptic broadband customers rated their service.

Hyperoptic broadband deals
Rather than using Openreach phone lines, Hyperoptic has its own fibre broadband network. This means it doesn’t sell ‘standard’ speed deals – it only supplies high-speed broadband, so even its entry-level package has an average speed of 33Mbps. Hyperoptic's fastest package has average speeds of 900Mbps.
However, the Hyperoptic network isn’t as widely available as the one used by the Openreach or Virgin Media network. It’s currently available to around 1.2m premises in 64 towns and cities in the UK. As is becoming increasingly popular in the UK, a phone line isn’t compulsory with Hyperoptic – you can take up a broadband-only deal. If you do wish to include a phone line in your deal, it will cost an additional £2 a month.
Hyperoptic contracts usually last for 12 or 24 months. You can also opt for a monthly rolling contract, but it will cost a little more each month. Hyperoptic offers discounts to students, including on its rolling deals.

How much is Hyperoptic broadband?
Hyperoptic offers packages with speeds ranging from 33Mbps up to 900Mbps. However, its availability depends on where you live.

Hyperoptic broadband speeds
Unlike more traditional providers, Hyperoptic only offers fibre broadband.
It has four core packages: Fast with an average speed of 55Mbps, Superfast with an average speed of 159Mbps, Ultrafast with an average speed of 527Mbps and Hyperfast with an average speed of 900Mbps.
However, if you're happier with slower speeds, it's also possible to sign up to a Hyperoptic deal with an average speed of 33Mbps, although this isn't always widely advertised.
Does Hyperoptic put up broadband prices every year?
No – unlike other providers, Hyperoptic promises not to increase your tariff each year.
What is the latest Hyperoptic router?
Hyperoptic supplies two routers – its ZTE Hyperhub comes with its slower (50Mbps and 150Mbps) packages, while its Nokia Hyperhub is supplied to customers on its speediest deals (500Mbps, 1Gbps). Both Hyperhubs need to be installed by an engineer, but this is usually free of charge – there may be a fee if you have specific requirements about where it's placed.
Where is Hyperoptic broadband available?
Hyperoptic’s network isn’t as widely available as the one used by the Openreach or Virgin Media network. If you live in an apartment block in a big city, there’s a reasonable chance you’ll be able to access the network. It’s currently available to around 1.2m premises in 64 towns and cities in the UK. This includes parts of:
- Cardiff, Birmingham, Brighton, Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leamington Spa, Leeds, Leicester, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham, Portsmouth, Reading, Sheffield, Slough, Southampton, Stockport.
What is Hyperoptic Total Wi-Fi?
Total Wi-Fi is an add-on service that includes a mesh wi-fi extender system. If you sign up, Hyperoptic will send you a special Minihub to place in your home to use to extend the signal from your router. If you live in a very large property, you can also request an additional Minihub.
It costs an extra £7 per month and can only be added to Hyperoptic's fixed-term contracts (rolling contract customers will need to take out a fixed-term contract to sign up).
